Mathematics

At EVPESC, we believe in implementing a carefully considered Math curriculum that is progressive and sequential. Learning experiences presents opportunities for balance, breadth, and ambition, leading towards key end points dependent on the student’s IEP. Ensuring that learning is firmly embedded within long term memory at each stage ensures explicit scaffolding on which learning can extend and expand in a given skill or knowledge strand, Number & Algebra, Measurement, or Statistics. At our Centre Mathematics is taught through hands-on, interactive learning experiences that use manipulatives and materials to provide solid foundations for numeracy growth. Although our primary focus is on the Number & Algebra strand, we incorporate other mathematical strands into our regular lessons to guarantee all our students have an early exposure to better equip them as they move through school.

Students’ number skills are evaluated twice a year using a specifically designed test that is in line with the Australian Curriculum. The outcomes of these assessments serve as a roadmap for our future goal-setting and planning, enabling us to customise our teaching methods to each student’s unique requirements and foster their continuous development within Mathematics.
