Humanities and Social Sciences
At EVPESC, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) is taught once a week. During Semester 1, we have a focus on History and explore a range of different content from the curriculum, including covering topics such as family, celebrations, old and new and more. Semester 2 moves into Geography, where the focuses are on significant places to us, global geography, weather, and more. Learning goals for our students will come from a mixture of content knowledge from addressing the topics previously listed, and through setting goals to learn about the Humanities and Social Sciences skills, which refer to higher order thinking skills such as questioning, researching, analysing, evaluating, communicating, and reflecting. In HASS, there is a strong emphasis on exploring ways of learning and knowing from different cultures, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, so we prioritise integrating this knowledge into our teaching and learning practices in a culturally responsive way, recognising the importance of Aboriginal pedagogy through the incorporation of the 8 Ways of Learning Framework into all our planning at EVPESC.
